Preparing for a Digital PET CT Scan

Proper preparation is essential for accurate imaging. When you arrive, our staff will guide you through registration and ask you to remove any metal jewellery or accessories, which can affect scan quality.

We also request previous medical reports or scans, helping our doctors interpret your results accurately.

Fasting and Diabetic Patient Guidelines

Adults: 6 hours fasting
Children: 4 hours fasting

Diabetic patients are given priority scans to ensure safety and optimal results. Before the procedure, blood sugar levels are checked to ensure the scan is effective.

How the Radiotracer is Administered

The scan involves a nuclear medicine injection. A trained technician, together with a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), administers a small dose of radiotracer, usually F-18 FDG or another tracer depending on the scan type.

After the injection, patients rest for about one hour while the tracer spreads through the body, allowing precise imaging of metabolic activity.
